Hoopeston Regional Health Center Helps Miss Hoopeston Help the Community
Each year Hoopeston welcomes a new “Miss Hoopeston,” chosen from many deserving young women to be a representative for the community. And each of these young women has tried during their time as Miss Hoopeston to do some good for the community they are representing. This year’s Miss Hoopeston, Callie Huffman, is no exception. She recently organized a free summer lunch program called, “Feed My Lambs,” in partnership with her church, The Hoopeston United Methodist Church.
“Feed My Lambs,” began on June 15 and will run until August 14, and anyone in Preschool through Sixth Grade that qualifies for free lunches at school, can qualify for this program. But she certainly hasn’t been able to accomplish this on her own. Callie relies on many volunteers and donations to keep this program going.
She recently received a $500 donation from the Hoopeston Regional Health Center, to help with all the costs of this program. In addition to the cash donation, the cafeteria at Hoopeston Hospital donated condiments, sanitation gloves, and storage bags to this program. Harry Brockus, CEO of the HRHC, believed that this was a service our community needed and wanted to provide the program with a donation that might make it a success.
Callie saw a need in our community and put a plan into action to help meet that need. When speaking about the future of the program Callie had this to say, “I don’t know what the future holds for this program, nor do I know what my role in it will be, but I hope to see this program continue for many years.” |
