Hoopeston Resident Wins Disney Raffle
HOOPESTON, IL (September 16, 2009) – For the past few months the Hoopeston Area Healthcare Foundation has been raising money by giving area residents a chance to win an all-inclusive trip for four to Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL. After months of waiting the winner was chosen on a Labor Day, and it was no accident this person won.
Longtime Hoopeston resident Teresa Sollars, owner of Computer Works in downtown Hoopeston, was the lucky winner drawn by Sweetcorn Festival Chairwoman Liz Brewster. But when you speak with Teresa she says it had to be fate that helped her win this trip.
Four years ago Teresa, her husband Pete, and twin sons Richard and Rodney, took what they thought would be their last family vacation to Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL. After being there for less than 24 hours Teresa received a phone call that not only changed their vacation plans, but changed their lives. Her son Brandon had been shot while serving his country, forcing Teresa and family to leave their vacation and rush to Brandon’s side. At that moment and for weeks after word the family’s only concern was Brandon’s wellbeing. But later when they tried to get a refund for the trip they never took, they were told that it wasn’t possible. And the last family vacation they might ever take, never happened.
But when Hoopeston Regional Health Center CEO Harry Brockus, called Teresa to inform her of her win, she said that fate was helping them out. Now hopefully Teresa, Pete, Richard, and Rodney can try one more time at that family vacation.
