Hoopeston Regional is .....

Hoopeston Regional Health Center offers a history rich in dedication and commitment to providing the residents of Hoopeston and the surrounding communities quality health care services.

Conceived in 1956 by Dr. Werner Fliesser, long-time Hoopeston physician, Hoopeston Community Memorial Hospital, Inc. was created as a not-for-profit corporation. The hospital opened its’ doors in July of 1962 with the assistance of Lutheran Hospital and Homes Society who owned and operated the facility.

In 1972, a 50-bed skilled nursing home was constructed adjacent to the hospital. To meet the growing needs of the community and area, the Hoopeston Community Memorial Nursing Home added an additional 25 beds in 1995, to offer a total of 75 beds. Also in 1995, the hospital kitchen was expanded and Country Terrace, a 30 apartment senior independent living community was opened.

In 1986, the hospital was sold to Westworld Community Healthcare, Inc., which then filed bankruptcy in 1987. To save the hospital from closing, the community and area rallied and were successful in raising the necessary funds to purchase the hospital out of bankruptcy.

The final phase of this three phase project was completed when the Charlotte Ann Russell Medical Center was opened in 2000. The center offers a 10,000 square foot medical practice building that houses family care physicians, physician assistants, and many visiting specialists. The Charlotte Ann Russell Medical Center has since opened affiliated clinics in Cissna Park and Rossville to provide patients with convenient access to providers.

In 2008, the facility completed its’ latest renovation and construction project. The outcome of the renovation was a modern laboratory. The new construction, which opened in October 2008, provided a new Radiology Suite – allowing for Radiology services to be joined in one area of the facility. Included in the construction of the Radiology Suite, was a new main entrance, lobby and registration area.

Plans for constructing a new Emergency Room and Surgery Suite are in the forecast for 2010/2011. In addition, preliminary plans are being put in motion for the construction of a new hospital in ten years.
